PDF Redaction Studio Desktop Is Now Available on Linux via Snap

We are thrilled to announce that PDF Redaction Studio Desktop is now available for Linux as a Snap package! This is a major step forward for users who want the full power of AI-driven PDF redaction without any cloud dependency, Docker setup, or server configuration.

Install it in one command and start redacting sensitive documents right from your desktop.

What Is PDF Redaction Studio Desktop?

PDF Redaction Studio Desktop is a native desktop application that brings our battle-tested AI redaction engine directly to your computer. It automatically detects and removes personally identifiable information (PII) from PDF documents — names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, faces, and more — all processed locally on your machine.

Your documents never leave your device. Most of the processing happens locally (OCR, Data Extraction, Face detection), giving you the privacy and compliance guarantees that matter most to security-conscious users.

Why a Desktop App?

We built the desktop version in response to feedback from users who needed:

  • True air-gap capability — no internet connection required after installation
  • Zero infrastructure overhead — no Docker, no server, no compose files to manage
  • Instant startup — open the app and start working immediately
  • Desktop-native experience — file pickers, drag-and-drop, native window management

The desktop app is ideal for individual professionals, legal teams, healthcare workers, and anyone who handles sensitive documents and needs a fast, private, local solution.

How to Install on Linux

Installing PDF Redaction Studio Desktop on Linux takes a single command:

sudo snap install pdf-redaction-studio

Once installed, launch it from your application menu or run:

pdf-redaction-studio

Snap is supported on Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch Linux, and many other distributions. If Snap is not yet installed on your system, follow the official Snap installation guide.

You can also install it directly from the Snap Store page.

Getting Started

After installation:

  1. Open a PDF — drag and drop or use File → Open
  2. Review detected PII — the AI highlights sensitive information automatically
  3. Adjust redactions — add, remove, or customize regions as needed
  4. Export — save a clean, fully redacted PDF

The interface is the same as our web-based Studio, so if you've used PDF Redaction Studio before, you'll feel right at home.
