How to update
The Snap (Linux) and Microsoft Store (Windows) versions update automatically. The Windows installer, the portable .zip builds, and the macOS .dmg don't update themselves — download the new version from the download page and install it over the old one.
0.1.8 — 23 October 2026
🚀 Features
- Support chat with unread badges: the rebuilt support chat adds an emoji picker and shows unread messages on the app icon — a number on the macOS Dock and Linux launcher, a red dot on the Windows taskbar. The badge clears when you return to the app.
- In-app notifications: a bell icon with an unread count and a notifications list, including alerts before your documents expire and a notice when credits are added to your account.
- Request a demo: a new checkbox on the sign-in and sign-up screens lets you ask for a demo session.
🔄 Updates
- The workspace billing page now lists your payment methods on file, with card brand, last 4 digits, and expiry date.
- The editor sidebar now has quick links to upgrade your plan, and to earn free pages by inviting colleagues or sending feedback.
🐛 Fixes
- Upgrade, billing, and pricing links now open inside the app. Before, they opened in your web browser, where you weren't signed in.
- Fixed the marketing consent checkbox briefly flashing on the sign-in and sign-up screens.
0.1.7 — 15 October 2026
🚀 Features
- macOS: Studio Desktop is now available for Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or later, macOS 11 or newer), as a
.dmgdisk image or a portable.zip. - Open PDFs from your file manager: right-click a PDF in Windows Explorer and choose Redact PDF, or use Open With in macOS Finder and on Linux. The file opens straight in the editor.
- Support Center: a new Help section in the sidebar collects support tickets, email, documentation, and live chat in one place.
- Better manual redaction: select and redact text on scanned pages, redact every occurrence of the selected text with the new All button, and get boxes that follow the angle of slanted words.
- Vertical and rotated text is now detected and redacted with boxes that follow the text angle, both in the editor and in the exported PDF.
- PaddleOCR is now available as an OCR engine, plus an Always run OCR option that forces OCR on every page. See OCR Language Support for supported languages.
- Support tickets: create tickets with file attachments and track their status from your account, or use the new Report Bug button in the editor toolbar.
🔄 Updates
- New processing engine: text-layer results appear in about a second, text inside embedded images is detected too, and values found on one page are flagged everywhere else they appear in the document.
- Redesigned detection settings: settings moved into a dedicated Settings dialog. Each detector (PII, OCR, objects) has its own tab with an on/off switch, you can choose between cloud AI, the local model, or rule-based patterns only, and AI model download progress appears inside the editor.
- The PII type filter lists every found item with its page numbers, you can remove a single item from the list, and the toolbar has a new Search button.
- Easier email sign-in: Continue with Email sends one email with both a sign-in link and a 6-digit code.
- A new About page shows the app version and where it was installed from (Microsoft Store, installer, Snap, or
.deb).
🐛 Fixes
- Fixed Google and Microsoft sign-in.
- Windows: the app now starts reliably on slow machines, where antivirus scanning can delay startup by 30 seconds or more. This fix and the sign-in fix first reached Microsoft Store users on 6 October.
- Fixed processing that could hang on some pages: a stuck step now fails cleanly, and the status bar shows text and image detection progress separately.
- Clearer error messages for damaged or password-protected PDFs.
- Fixed requests failing silently after a long session: the app now refreshes your sign-in automatically or asks you to sign in again.
- Fixed local PII detection not working for new users and hanging on machines with many CPU cores.
- The sign-in prompt in the editor now shows all available sign-in methods instead of only Google.
