Troubleshooting
Fixes for PDF Redaction Studio Desktop: macOS won't open the app, sign-in doesn't return to the app, Redact PDF menu missing, and where to find the log files.
Problems with documents, processing or sync are the same as in Studio, see Studio troubleshooting. For the editor itself, see the online editor troubleshooting.
macOS says the app "can't be opened" or "is damaged"
The app isn't notarized by Apple yet. Allow it once, see Allow the app in Gatekeeper.
Sign-in opens the browser but doesn't return to the app
Google and Microsoft sign-in finish in your web browser and hand back to the app through a pdf-redaction:// link. If nothing happens:
- When the browser asks whether to open PDF Redaction Studio, allow it.
- Make sure the app is installed, not only unzipped from a portable
.zipsomewhere temporary, and start it once before signing in. - Try signing in with e-mail instead.
"Redact PDF" or "Open With" is missing
- Windows: the item is added by the Microsoft Store version and the installer, not by the portable
.zip. On Windows 11, look under Show more options. - Linux: the
.debpackage registers the app for PDFs. With other builds, choose the app manually in Open With → Other application. - macOS: if the app isn't listed, open it once from Applications, then try again.
The app doesn't update
Only the Microsoft Store and Snap builds update themselves. For other builds, download the new version from the download page. Check your version under About in the sidebar.
Log files
Support may ask for the app's log file:
| System | Location |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\Pdf Redaction Studio\logs\main.log |
| macOS | ~/Library/Logs/Pdf Redaction Studio/main.log |
| Linux | ~/.config/Pdf Redaction Studio/logs/main.log |
To see errors inside the app, open the developer tools with Ctrl + Shift + I (⌘ + ⌥ + I on Mac).
